Grossmont College Athletics is pleased to welcome Ms. Nedra Brown to Grossmont College as the new Associate Dean of Athletics. As the Associate Dean of Athletics, she will be responsible for coordinating and managing the Grossmont College Athletics Programs, coordinating and communicating responsively with the ESW department and division dean on matters related to inter-collegiate athletic courses, designing athletic student success program activities, and reviewing facilities usage. The Associate Dean of Athletics will serve as the college athletics compliance officer to interpret rules and communicate CCCAA, NCAA, and SCFA rules and other compliance regulations for the department and college; and ensure equity of competitions and preparation of schedules. Ms. Brown will provide administrative oversite and coordination of home contests and tournaments, and at away or statewide playoffs.
Ms. Brown is a native of Memphis, Tennessee, graduated and earned a scholarship in Volleyball and Basketball to LeMoyne-Owen College. She was a part of the SIAC Basketball Tournament Championship team, defeating Alabama A&M University, and after graduating with her B.S. in Biology, Brown taught physical science, biology and coached on the high school level for four years. She earned a master's degree in Education from Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN.
As an athletics professional, Ms. Brown's coaching career included Volleyball, Softball, and Women's Basketball. Additionally, she led Alabama A&M University to seven consecutive SWAC Championship appearances, four consecutive SWAC Championship titles, four Coach of the Year awards, and four NCAA Tournament berths. Not only has she had a successful competitive career on the court and field, she was also active working with student-athletes serving as the SAAC advisor, Activity Director for the National Youth Sports Program, and Academic Advisor.
Ms. Brown transitioned into administration and became the Senior Woman Administrator and Acting Director of Athletics at AAMU, Associate Athletic Director for International Operations and Senior Women Administrator at Jackson State University, Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Academics at Saginaw Valley State University, and most recently served as the Interim Assistant Athletic Director at Santa Monica College. She will begin her position as Associate Dean of Athletics at Grossmont College on Wednesday, July 31st and her office will be located in 41-125.
