GROSSMONT COLLEGE IS RUNNER-UP FOR TOP ATHLETIC PROGRAM PERFORMANCE IN 2018-19

San Diego Mesa College athletics received the DeVore Trophy after its teams earned six titles for the 2018-19 year. Grossmont College is the Runner-Up.

The Pacific Coast Athletics Conference college with the most successful men's and women's athletic program receives the award each year.

Mesa last won the DeVore Trophy in 2012.

Mesa teams captured titles in baseball, men's cross country, men's track & field, women's swim and dive, women's water polo and women's volleyball.

In addition, the Olympians finished second in the state in women's swim and dive and third in men's cross country.

Teams placed second in the conference in men's swimming, women's soccer, softball and women's track.

Grossmont College, which won titles in men's swim and dive, women's tennis, men's volleyball, men's water polo and women's beach volleyball, as well as a co-championship in women's basketball, finished behind Mesa for the trophy.

The late Chester DeVore, a former president of Southwestern College, was founding commissioner of the Pacific Coast conference.

DeVore, a World War II veteran, and Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient, died in January 2011 at the age of 92.
