Chris Ray is a Certified Athletic Trainer who attended Grossmont College in 1981 and was the athlete of the year for gymnastics - most notably competing in the bars. She then studied at San Diego State University and graduated with a certification in 1985.

Before her graduation, she was hired as a student athletic trainer at Grossmont in 1984 before starting full time in 1987. She now works with the men’s athletic teams and loves watching their success while traveling with the team every step of the way. Student-athletes call her “Mamma” out of respect and a deeper connection of sharing common goals.

Ray’s favorite part of the job is the problem solving and rehabilitation. Student-athletes come in with injuries or illnesses and she works with them to recover and thrive. Seeing them back on the field/court is the reason she loves her job.

Besides being the Athletic Trainer, Ray teaches Sports Medicine Pathways at Grossmont High School and is a preceptor for the SDSU Athletic Training Program. Along with her teaching credentials, she is certified in E Coins massage therapy and is a CPR instructor.

In her personal life, Ray was born and raised in San Diego. She is the third generation of San Diego natives and her two children are fourth generation. Ray’s hobbies include horses, hiking, reading books and being a grandmother of two.
