Mar 08, 2018

Palomar College softball player Kylie Pignone and Grossmont's No. 1 beach volleyball duo of Felicia Marshall and Khalia Jordan have been selected by the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference as Women's Athletes of the Week for February 25 through March 3.

Pignone, state No. 7-ranked Palomar's freshman left fielder from San Clemente High School who transferred from Division I Coastal Carolina University after the Fall semester, came up big again for the Comets.

She went 4-for-4 with 4 runs scored and an RBI in a 19-0 victory over Saddleback and was 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs in a 19-2 win over conference rival San Bernardino Valley as the Comets out-hit the Wolverines 20-4.

"Kylie is your consomate lead-off hitter," said Palomar's retired National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame coach Mark Eldridge, who has returned to the program he built into one of the country's best as head coach as an assistant for his former star player and now-Comets head coach Lacey Craft.

"We were very fortunate we landed her during the semester break."

Palomar went to 12-2 on the season and 2-0 in the PCAC with the back-to-back victories.

Jordan, a 5-foot-8 sophomore transfer from Cal State Dominguez Hills transfer from Chula Vista and the Epic Volleyball Club, and Marshall, a 5-foot-10 sophomore from Clinton, Utah and a transfer from Western Wyoming Community College, have led the G-House to a 6-0 start with six straight victories playing at No. 1.

The Griffins opened the season by defeating Ventura 5-0, Santa Barbara City College 5-0, Saddleback 5-0, Mt. SAC 5-0 and Santa Monica 5-0 head into into a week in which they are facing the University of Mexico, Grand Canyon University, Abilene Christian University Concordia University of Irvine and Colorado Mesa University before opening their PCAC season on Friday against College of the Desert at Civic Center Park in Palm Desert.

"Their physicality, power and energy make them a really fun duo to coach and watch," said Grossmont coach Jamie Ivers.
