April 3, 2018 - The Grossmont College women's beach volleyball squad is headed for their third conference championship since 2015, with a 6-0 record so far this 2018 season!
The women claimed the conference championship in both 2015 and 2016, and are currently undefeated in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) reigning over conference competitors San Diego Mesa College, 4-1, College of the Desert, 5-0, MiraCosta College, 3-2, San Diego City College, 5-0, and Palomar College, 5-0.
The women are scheduled for round two against College of the Desert (4-8) and San Diego Mesa (10-7) this Friday, April 6, 2018 at an attempt to capture the conference title for the third time. Friday's match-ups begin at 9:00 a.m. (vs COD) and 11:00 a.m. (vs SDMC) at the Grossmont College beach volleyball courts, behind the Exercise Science Building (Bldg 41).
With an impressive overall record of 17-3, the griffin women have lost only 3 match-ups this season; University of Mexico (NCAA Division I) 2-3, Grand Canyon University (NCAA Division I) 0-5, and Colorado Mesa University (NCAA Division II) 2-3.
"These ladies have done a great job with collective responsibility," states head coach Jamie Ivers. "Each pairing knows that they only have to do their part day in and day out and that's exactly what they have done. Nobody has to be perfect, they all just strive for excellence daily with the selfless support of one another which is why they thrive."

2s team - #1 Felicia Marshall and #24 Khalia Jordan
3s team - #4 Desiree Elizondo and #23 Makayla Tam
4s team - #40 Maiya Lopez and #22 Ashlee Goycoochea
5s team - #3 Jamie Sakasegawa and #11 Jen Orbita
In addition to conference championships, Grossmont College beach volleyball earned the runner-up trophy in the 2015 CCCAA Beach Volleyball Inaugural State Championships with a 2-1 record. Grossmont defeated Golden West, 5-0, and Cabrillo, 3-1, but lost to Irvine Valley 0-5 who moved forward into the title.
The 2016 CCCAA Beach Volleyball State Championship came down to a rematch of the last year's (2015) top two finishers; the matchup came in the third and final round of round robin play where Irvine Valley College and Grossmont College had dispatched their opponents in similar fashion. After losing the first matchup, site host Grossmont rode their #2, #3, and #4 teams to the 2nd ever CCCAA Beach Volleyball State Championship over Irvine Valley.
