JORDAN AND MARSHALL FINISH TOP 16 IN STATE

The 2018 California Community College Athletic Association Beach Volleyball Pairs Championship wrapped up last Saturday, May 11, 2018 at West Valley College in Saratoga, California.

Grossmont's 2s pair, Khalia Jordan and Felicia Marshall, headed into the state championships as the No. 1 SoCal seed while GC's 1s pair, Christina Barrameda and Aofiaolela Faa'agi, held the No. 9 SoCal seed.

Jordan, Marshall, Barrameda and Faa'agi each finished the 2018 beach volleyball regular season with Pacific Coast Conference 1st team All-Conference honors.

Pool play began Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with the two GC pairs competing against one another in their opening match. The match between the griffin teammates was thrilling, with Jordan and Marshall defeating Barrameda and Faa'agi in two tightly scored sets, 21-19 and 21-18.

Jordan and Marshall continued championship's pool play with their second win against Antelope Valley's Jasmine Dixon and Heather Emory 21-16 and 21-16. The griffin duo captured their third win versus Fullerton's Fiona Green and Jami Maffei 21-13 and 21-15, and headed into the round of sixteen 3-0.

Barrameda and Faa'agi came back to win their second match of pool play versus FC's Green and Maffei (21-23, 21-15,15-9), to face AVC's Dixon and Emory in a tough two set loss 21-18 and 21-17. Like GC's Jordan and Marshall, AVC's Dixon and Emory moved into the round of sixteen 2-1.

In the round of 16, Jordan and Marshall put up a fight versus Golden West's Ashleigh Atsaros and Andrea Gonzalez, ultimately to lose in two sets 21-18 and 21-14.

In the quarter-finals, GW's Atsaros and Gonzalez lost to MiraCosta's state semi-finalists and PCAC conference pairs champion, Michelle Masons and Claudia Mathews, 23-21 and 21-18.

The finals found Irvine Valley's Megan Ramseyer and Taira Ka'awaloa capture the title after defeating Long Beach City's Sierra Davis and Josannah Vasquez, 22-20 and 21-18.
