Baseball vs East LA 

The Griffins (5-5) matched up in the G-House against the Huskies (7-3) this President's Day.

The Griffins were off to a great start in the first inning, with 3 up and 3 out. Starting pitcher #15 Sean Szlalapski threw more strikes than balls and recorded a single strikout to start the game.

The bottom of the first inning found batter #2 Reece Hernandez with a single, #11 Eric De la Rosa with a triple and run batted in (RBI), and # 21 Alex Golembiewski with a single and RBI. The Griffins lead 2-0 at the end on the first inning on 3 hits and 2 runs.

3rd baseman #5 Joshua Verdon with back-to-back outs to 1st baseman #36 Trevor Shenefield, totaling 3 outs into the next inning.

The bottom of the second inning saw #1 Tristen Salinas drop a fly ball in the center field to bring runner #36 Trevor Shenefield home from 2nd base. 3-0 lead for the Griffins. By the end of the second inning the score was 3-0 with 1 hit, 1 run and 2 left on base.

3 consecutive innings with no runs still against the Griffins. Another strikeout for pitcher Sean Szlalapski in the top of the 3rd to bring the game into the bottom of the inning.

The Griffins found another 2 hits and single run batted in by #36 Trevor Shenefield. 4-0.

The top of the fourth inning - #11 Huskie Matt Sosa began with a hit by pitch. Sosa continued to steal second on a wild pitch by Grossmont's Sean Szlalapski. East LA with their first run batted in by #23 Huskie Elias Maldonado, and second and third run batted in by Huskie #3 Gabriel Figueroa on a sacrificial fly ball. The score was 4-2 moving into the bottom of the 4th inning, and then the Griffins with 0 runs, 0 hits and 0 left on base at the inning's conclusion.

The top of the 5th inning had the Griffins defense on lock, taking down the Huskies in just 3 defensive plays.

Griffin #11 Eric De la Rosa with a home run to start the bottom of the 5th! 5-2. Following the home-run, a wild pitch and passed ball by the Huskies found Griffin #10 Emory Allen-Fox on third base, Fox scored on the next passed ball. 2 runs, 3 hits and 1 left on base - 6-2 Griffins.

The 6th inning skipped any action with zeros across the board for both East LA and Grossmont.

Huskie #3 Gabriel Figueroa takes a stolen base opportunity to second in the top if the 7th inning, then finds himself no further than third base as his teammates fail to bring him home. Zero errors for the Griffins defense.

Both teams showed strong defense in the 7th inning. The Huskies batted out and Grossmont took 3 strikeouts. 0 runs, 0 hits and 0 left on base for the Griffins that inning, and beginning the 8th inning still leading 6-2.

Bottom of 8th - Griffin #7 Brady Joslyn hit by a pitch and then caught stealing on 2nd base. Griffin #5 Joshua Verdon takes the second out, followed by the third out by #1 Tristen Salinas.

Last chance for the Huskies to tie it up in the 9th and final inning, but Griffin pitcher #1 Tristen Salinas brings in the win and a final score of 6-2 for the Grossmont College Griffins.

The Griffins face Compton College away Saturday, February 17th, but bring it back home Thursday, February 22nd versus Long Beach City College at 2:00 p.m.
