Football defensive tackle Kyree Woods is honored as the male athlete of the year at the 57th Annual Grossmont College ASGC Awards Ceremony.

The ASGC Awards Ceremony was held at Grossmont College on April 17, 2019. The student nomination criteria for Athlete of the Year included:

  • Currently attending classes during the 2018-19 academic year
  • Minimum of 3.25 cumulative gpa
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities, which includes respectful treatment of others, integrity, character, ethics and effective communication
  • Made outstanding contributions to the "Quality of Campus Life" for students by active involvement in campus activities, athletics, organizations, and/or clubs

Defensive Coordinator coach Charlan Arnold nominated Woods this year for the award. Coach CJ states, "I have known Kyree Woods for the past two years, having served as both his coach on the football team and his Health Education Instructor. I believe Kyree would be an excellent recipient of the ASGC Athlete of the Year Award.

While attending Grossmont College, Kyree has always challenged himself academically by not only taking high level classes but succeeding in them, which is evident by his 3.45 gpa while pursuing an Engineering degree. In the classroom he is an active participant in class discussions and grasps material quickly. He has superb written and verbal skills that are a pleasure for any instructor to encounter. Kyree has been known to tutor some of the other football players who are struggling with their math courses.

Kyree also excels on the football field. He served as a team captain for both years, and was named All-Conference as a sophomore. Kyree has accepted an offer to continue his academic and athletic career at Jacksonville University."

Congratulations to Kyree Woods for capturing the Athlete of the Year Award at Grossmont College during the 2018-19 academic year.
