The 71st Annual California Community College Athletic Association Swim & Dive State Championships finished last weekend at De Anza College in Cupertino, California.
Jasmine Miller qualified for the state championships in the women's 50, 100 and 200 yard freestyle swims. She finished twelfth in the state in the 50 yard with a 25.0 final time, fourteenth in the state in the 200 yard in 2:00.30, and 18th in the 100 free with a time of 55.05. Prior to state championships, Miller captured the conference championship (PCAC) in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.74, and placed second in the 100 yard freestyle (53.94).
GC's 200 meter butterfly record holder, Carli Willis, competed in the 400 IM and 200 butterfly at state championships. Making finals in both events, she finished 14th in the 400 IM with a new personal best and first time under 5 minutes, going 4:58.32. In the 200 butterfly, she finished 11th in the state with a new school record of 2:18.81. She has now broken the record 5 times this season and lowered it by a total of over 24 seconds this season.
PCAC champion (200 yard backstroke),
Vince Ojeda, competed in the 100 and 200 backstroke and finished 18
th in both events with a time of 56.12 and 2:02.11.
200 yard free relay - Hail, Webster, Reuss and Papike placed thirteenth with a time of 1:28.40.
400 yard free relay - Nevens, Papike, Ojeda and Reuss placed thirteenth with a 3:13.63.
800 yard free relay - Hail, Ojeda, Kuhn and Nevens swam into eleventh at 7:10.41.
200 yard medley relay - Ojeda, Persky, Reuss and Papike captured tenth with a time of 1:36.94.
400 yard medley realy - Ojeda, Persky, Reuss and Hail placed twelfth in 3:35.10.
Prior to state championships, Hail, Ojeda and Persky each captured conference titles in the PCAC; Hail finished 1st in the 200 yard freestyle (1:45.98), Ojeda finished 1st in the 200 yard backstroke (1:59.29), and Persky placed 1st in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:09.11).
Grossmont men's team finished state 16th overall out of 29 teams and the Women's team finished 24th out of 33 teams.
