GREG MICHAEL IS OFF TO OTTAWA, KANSAS

Grossmont College men's volleyball leader, Greg Michael, signs his NLI to Ottawa University, Kansas for fall 2018.

With 20 matches played last season (spring 2018), Michael led the griffins in sets (69), assists (497), assists per set (7.20), and service aces (8). His kills per set percentage was 1.52 with a whopping total of 105 kills during the season. GC's men's volleyball head coach, Travis Lee, recognized Michael's talent early in the season.

In March, Lee stated, "Greg is extremely driven to pursue volleyball at the next level. He is looking at his options between three top NAIA programs with 50% to 80% scholarship offers. As a setter, Greg is directly involved in every sequence on the court. Not only a great setter, Greg is a strong attacker which has been consistently portrayed throughout the season. His good attitude, sportsmanship and work ethic is contagious."

In addition to Kansas, Michael had scholarship offers from schools in the state of Arizona, and the 6'1 setter/op from San Diego (Helix high) decided the distance from San Diego to Ottawa was good enough to commit.

"Ottawa is in the mid-west, and it's far from San Diego. I am looking forward to getting out of San Diego. The temptation to go home is too high in Arizona and I don't want to give myself that option, although I'll miss my family," states Michael. "Its been a long ride, three years! Travis is a such a great coach. I've learned a lot, and honestly, I've become a better player because of Grossmont College."

The Ottawa University Spirits compete in the NAIA. Last season the spirits finished 15-10 overall. Greg Michael will attend the university in fall 2018, and compete in spring 2019.  Congratulations to Greg Michael!
