CHAMPIONS! MEN'S WATER POLO IS #1

Men's Water Polo won its 13th PCAC championship since the formation of the conference for water polo in 1999.
El Cajon, CA November 3, 2018

November 3 found the ninth meeting between men's water polo teams at Grossmont and Palomar College, the two schools in the conference finals each year since 2002. In the eight meetings prior, Grossmont held the first advantage 5-3, but it was Palomar whom won the last three title match-ups since 2015. In 2018, the Griffins reestablished dominance with a 21-7 Win over the Comets.

Grossmont's stifling press defense made it difficult for Palomar to get shots on the goal-the Griffins took the lead early and never looked back, opening the game up 5-0 after the first quarter. Each Griffin player contributed greatly to the defensive effort.

The second quarter was much the same with the quarter ending and the Griffins up 10-1, the Comets lone goal coming on a penalty shot resulting from an excluded Griffin player mistaking an official wave as meaning it was time for him to renter the game.

The third and fourth quarters saw all available Griffins enter the game as Grossmont cruised to a 21-7 victory.

Freshman Brock Kammerer led the team with five goals, four assists, and four steals. Sophomore Cole Kammerer had four goals, five assists and one steal. Sophomore Ryan Blevitt tossed in three goals, and had three assists. Sophomore Isaiah Webster had two goals, four steals, while Cole Duffett stole four. Sophomore Goal Keeper Travis Rosenkoetter knocked down 11 shots and contributed three steals and an assist to the effort.

The Griffins open up play at the Southern California regional playoffs as the number seven seed. The men will face Mt. San Antonio College Thursday, November 8 at 3:15 p.m. at Cerritos College.
