Grossmont College Griffins (6-22-1) vs Southwestern College Jaguars (11-10)

3:00 p.m. – Sunny, 75 degrees with blue skies

There was a large crowd out as the Griffins battled the Jaguars.

Starters Sydney Vates, Alizah Jamison, Azaria Wilson, Khiya Mohamed, Celine Menard, Madison Lindsay, Julissa Cardenas, Brianna Coronado and Alex Penrose took the field for the national anthem.

Griffin pitcher #29 Alex Penrose opened the game with a base on balls, followed by a ground out to catcher #28 Madison Lindsay - 1 out.

Southwestern's #18 Nicole Correia, drilled a line drive to left field for a single and RBI (0-1), then #6 Jaguar Brielle Tyseling doubled to left field. #9 Jaguar Angelina Guthro ground out to shortstop for an RBI (0-2 Jaguars). After a wild pitch by the Griffins, Tyseling stole home for a 0-3 lead by the bottom of the 1st inning.

The top of the 1st inning summary includes 3 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors and 0 left on base.

The bottom of the 1st found Alizah Jamison and Azaria Wilson with singles. Khiya Mohamed reached on a fielder's choice, as Wilson outs at 2B. Taylor O'Riley strikes out (3 out). 0 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base.

The second inning passed with great defense by the Griffins - 0 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors and 2 left on base. Unfortunately it was the same for the Jaguars, in the bottom of the 2nd, the griffins were left with 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 errors and 0 left on base.

Great hands by center fielder #1 Alizah Jamison, as she caught 2 fly balls in the top of the 3rd moving her team into the bottom of the 3rd on 0 runs, 1 hits, 0 errors and 1 left on base.

Alizah Jamison continued the inning (bottom of the 3rd) with a single to pitcher, but was left on base at the end of the 0 runs, 1 hits, 0 errors inning.

Griffin pitcher Alex Penrose opened the 4th inning with her 2nd base on balls of the game, only to make up for it by outing 2 consecutive hitters (2 out). Left fielder Brianna Coronado polished the top of the inning with a tight catch on a fly (3 out). 0-0-0-1 left on base.

The bottom of the 4th had the Griffins out with 3 batters. Zeros across the board.

The most remarkable double play was made by Griffin shortstop #25 Sydney Vates in the top of the 5th. Jaguar #6 Tyseling grounded the ball hard to Vates, who anticipated the catch perfectly on the run to tag out at 2B and continue to throw out at 1B. Well done! 0 runs, 1 hit, 1 errors and 1 left on base.

Bottom of the 5th - Madison Lindsay had a nice 1B to left center, followed by Julissa Cardenas' bunt and Brianna Coronado's sac bunt. The Griffin women were prepared to score with Cardenas on second and Lindsay on third, but with a fly out and ground out, the women were left with nothing (0 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors and 2 left on base).

Fast forward to the top of the 7th, with Griffin right fielder Celine Menard on a diving catch! Center fielder Alizah Jamison, diving catch. Two back-to-back diving catches in the 7th. Unbelievable! The inning ended with 0 runs, 1 hit, 0 errors and 2 left on base for Southwestern and 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 errors and 0 left on base for Grossmont.

Hitting leaders for Southwestern College include #18 Nicole Correia with 4 AB, 2 hits and 1 RBI and Brielle Tyseling with 4 AB, 1 run and 2 hits.

Honorable mention for Southwestern pitcher #3 Trudie Nixon, pitching 7 innings, with 5 hits and 89-62 balls ti strikes ratio.
