Wednesday evening in the G-House, women's basketball puts up a big win versus College of the Desert.

Our Grossmont Griffin starters:

Kyra Bruesewitz (#1), Natalia Del Bene (#3), Brittany Gafare (#11), SusieTraver (#14) and TyDaniels (#44)

To start, 6'1" Freshman Ty Daniels wins the tip-off to 5'9" Susie Traver! Green and gold put up the first 2 points by free-throw (Brittany Gafare, 2-0). Jada Toland of Desert capitalizes the first 2 points of her own (4-2). The lady Griffins respond with a quick attacking transition, and continue to push the net throughout the 1st quarter. Grossmont grows a leading gap, and Jeriah Drake sinks the first 3 point jump-shot of the game (12-7). The lady griffins finish the 1st quarter 16-11, showing initial strength in transitions on both sides of the ball.

In the 2nd quarter, the Griffins create multiple scoring opportunities. The women capitalize on a hand-full of field-goals to take a huge lead (27-14) with less than 6 minutes remaining. Additionally, Grossmont dominates on defensive rebounds (27 total-game) in the first quarter, possessing the ball and moving it forward rapidly. The G-House women run forward into a 33-15 lead, keeping possession for the remainder of the 2nd quarter and finish 39-15 into the half.

After a quick chat with Coach Caires, the lady Griffins are back on the court for the 3rd quarter. Two failed attacking attempts by both the Griffins and the Roadrunners finds Brittany Gafare (#11) with another field goal (41-15). Sophomore Kyra Bruesewitz (#1) sinks a 3 point attempt, and immediately follows with an additional 3 points for the Griffins (2/8 attempts). Grossmont moves up 48-15, and Desert finds its own small run to close the gap by a small number (51-21). The Griffins dominate the remainder of the 3rd quarter finishing it 55-27, in true G-House fashion.

The lady Griffins ran up the score in the 4th quarter. With 8 minutes left in the game, the score held 65-27 Grossmont. Desert was not finished. Relentless, the Roadrunners competed – running plays, passing the ball and communicating very well. Desert's Sophomore Mercades Young (#13) sank a 3 point attempt to score her team 30-65 on the scoreboard (2/7 attempts-game). Young saw 45 minutes for the Roadrunners, and scored her team a total of 8 points. A final full court player substitution by Grossmont saw the end of the 4th quarter, and the game, finishing 74-30 Grossmont College.

Lady Griffins Ty Daniels and Brittany Gafare both posted 12 points each, and Natalia Del Bene and Courtney Branch followed suit with 10 points a-piece. Grossmont accumulated a total of 18 steals and 27 defensive rebounds versus the Roadrunners and ran College of the Desert by over 40 points. The women are 12-14 overall, and 4-1 in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.

The women's basketball schedule remains, with the women facing conference opponents San Diego City College this Friday, February 9th in the G-House at 7:00 p.m.
