Grossmont women's basketball played in Riverside City College's sixth annual Earning Our Stripes tournament November 7-9, 2019.

"Although we didn't win, we improved by the end of the tournament," stated Griffin forward/center #32 Aaliyah Stone.

The women played Moorpark College on Thursday, November 7 to open the tournament. The final score was 105-24 Moorpark. The Griffins next game however, found a more competitive score.

Grossmont's second game was against Santa Ana College, for a 85-53 final Santa Ana. Over the course of the four quarters though, Grossmont improved on its scoring; by the end of the 4th, Grossmont had scored 21 points (8 more than in the third!).

In the game against Santa Ana #5 Lilian Akintonde went 3-3 in free-throws, while #3 Angel Saleh shot .67% (4-6 FGs).

The Griffins final game of the Earning our Stripes tournament was on Saturday, November 9 against Solano College. Despite the 84-48 loss, the women strengthened their defense. Solano only scored 15 points in the final quarter.

Grossmont head coach Karen Caires purposely schedules a tough pre-season to prepare her squad for the upcoming competitive season.

The team plays again Friday, November 15 at 4:00 PM at College of the Desert, and their next home game is Wednesday, November 27 at 5:00 PM vs Mt. San Jacinto College. View the full schedule here.
