April 23, 2018 - Grossmont College men's swimming and diving finished 2nd in the Pacific Coast Conference this season. The men competed against rival schools in the PCAC including Crafton Hills, San Diego Mesa, Palomar and Southwestern. Individual conference champions include Vince Ojeda, Brandon Persky and Garrett Hail.
Vince Ojeda, a sophomore from Helix high, took first place in the conference 200 yard backstroke with a finishing time of 1:59.29. Ojeda also placed 3rd in the 100 yard backstroke and 4th in the 200 yard IM.
Likewise, Brandon Persky (sophomore from Valhalla high) took first place in the 200 yard breaststroke, with a finishing time of 2:09.11. Persky also placed 2nd in the 100 yard breaststroke and 5th in the 200 yard IM.
Garrett Hail, a freshman from Christian high, took his own first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle, with a finishing time of 1:45.98. Hail also finished 2nd in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle.
Behind Hail in the 200 yard freestyle was teammate Mack Nevens, placing 2nd at 1:46.30. Eddie Reuss finished 2nd place in the 100 butterfly (52.66), and Brian Kuhn placed 2nd in the 1650 freestyle (17:48.39). Other top 5 finishers in the conference championships include Nathan Bailey (100 & 200 breaststroke), Cole Duffet (100 butterfly), Weston Papike (50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle), Travis Rosenkoetter (200 breaststroke), Isaiah Webster (100 breaststroke) and Alex Wells (400IM & 200 butterfly).
On the women's side of the pool, Grossmont College women's swimming and diving finished 3rd in the Pacific Coast Conference this season. The women competed against rival schools in the PCAC including Crafton Hills, San Diego Mesa, Palomar and Southwestern. Individual conference champions include Jasmine Miller.
Jasmine Miller, a freshman from Valhalla high, is the conference champion for the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.74. Miller placed 2nd in the 100 yard freestyle (53.94) at conference championships also.
Likewise, Carli Willis (freshman from West Hills high) broke her own school record again in the 200 yard butterfly, with a time of 2:19.35 - a 10 second improvement from her last recorded swim (2:29.01). Willis placed 2nd in the 400 yard IM as well.
Coming in at 2nd in the 100 yard breaststroke was Natalie May (1:12.86), and other top 5 finishers include Akari Masaoka (100 & 200 backstroke), Natalie May (100 & 200 breaststroke) and Carli Willis (400 IM & 200 butterfly).

Ojeda, Persky, Hail, Miller and Willis are anticipated to compete in the CCCAA 2018 State Championships. State Championships for men's and women's swimming and diving are scheduled Thursday-Friday, May 3-5, 2018 at De Anza College in Cupertino, California.
