VOLLEYBALL TO HOST FIRST ROUND OF PLAYOFFS

VOLLEYBALL TO HOST FIRST ROUND OF PLAYOFFS

Grossmont College women's volleyball finished fall season with quite a roar. After a hard defeat against MiraCosta and then a huge win over SD Mesa, the Griffin women tied for the conference championship and move into the first round of regional playoffs as the #2 seed.

Earlier in the fall, the Griffin women swept MiraCosta in three sets only to lose in five during their second meeting. Then after being swept by SD Mesa, Grossmont returned to beat the Olympians in similar fashion (3 set sweep).

Grossmont finshed 14-2 in the Pacific Coast Conference (.875%) and reclaimed the conference title since 2017 (eight year consecutive run from 2010, broken by SD Mesa in 2018). Likewise conference rival SD Mesa finished conference 14-2 and also share the championship this fall (darn those Olympians!).

The Griffin women's second to last state ranking found them at #4 (November 21, 2019)!

GC now prepares for its first round of regional playoffs (SoCal) Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. As the higher seed, Grossmont will host the highest remaining seed from the play-in round. Colleges competing in the play-in round include #15 Rio Hondo, #16 Mt. San Jacinto, #17 Golden West and #18 San Diego City.

The regional play-in occurs Saturday, November 23.

SD Mesa sits at the #3 seed and will host its own round against #14 College of the Canyons on Tuesday.

If Grossmont wins Tuesday, the second round is scheduled at the higher seed (possibly Grossmont College) on Saturday, November 30. The winner of the regional second round advances to the state tournament held December 6-8 at Southwestern College.
