WOMEN'S WATER POLO MOVES INTO OFF-SEASON

Story by Alex Ellison

The Women's Water Polo team wrapped up their season on Nov. 4 with a 11-6 victory over San Diego Miramar. The Griffins (11-7) scored 11.83 goals per game and went undefeated at home on the season.

Sophomore Madison Stockton and freshman Jasmine Miller, both from Valhalla, were standouts for the team and both finished the season with 61 goals. Stockton was named First Team All-Conference, All-PCAC Team and a 2016 All-American last season. Miller was named Second Team All-Southern California, Second Team All-Conference and All-PCAC Team as well.

Sophomore Alex Hultman and freshman Camryn Raley were also named Second Team All-Conference for the season.

Head Coach Larry Larson is proud of the team's season and encouraged for next season.

"We had a couple players redshirt and we have a lot of players returning next season to build on this" Coach Larson said.

With eight of the eleven players from this season being freshmen and coming back next season, Larson is excited to potentially return to the conference finals - a feat the team has accomplished in 12 of the 16 years he has been the head coach.

A big part of the success is based on recruiting, something Larson does in the East County and local areas.

"Right now, I'm focused on recruiting and making sure all our girls will be eligible and ready to go."

The Water Polo offseason is upon us and the Grossmont Griffins are already preparing for next season by staying in the pool during Swimming, a sport Larson doubles as the Head Coach for as well.

Make sure to support the Women's Water Polo team next season as they bring back a focused and experienced group to make a push for the conference title.
