GRIFFIN BASEBALL WALKED IN FOUR FOR THE WIN

Grossmont College baseball took the win over Imperial Valley College Thursday, March 5, 2020.

Darien Cossio was the first on base with a triple in the bottom of the first. Brandon Glowacki followed with a 1B. Grossmont failed to score in the first however.

The top of the second found a quick double ground out from third baseman Glowacki, to Kiichi Sato at second, and then to Billy Tellous at first. The third out was booked, and as easy as that, Grossmont moved into the bottom of the inning.

One, two, three outs back-to-back for the Griffins in the second, now moving into the third.

Clear, sunny blues skies remained for the day's game. Imperial Valley stepped up to bat in the third, scoring none, but with excellent defensive plays made by Grossmont's short stop Elijah Jackson and pitcher Riley Hamilton

Cossio started the bottom of the third by grounding out to second. Glowacki struck out, and so did Sean McGrew

The top of the fourth found Imperial Valley sneaking a run in with a great pick-off on first diversion. The Arabs lead 1-0, and Hamilton finished the inning with a strikeout.

After Sato grounded out at first, Tellous stepped up to the plate only to strikeout swinging in three pitches. Designated hitter Adrian Andrews hit a 1B to center field. Catcher Adam Martinez then completes the inning with the third out on a fly to right field.

In the top of the fifth, Grossmont's Hamilton grounded one out, struck out another, and then flyed out the third.

Two on base for the Griffins in the bottom of the fifth, and Glowacki forced a throwing error to reach second. Grossmont scored one and the score was tied 1-1, with two on base still.

Still in the bottom, McGrew was hit by the pitch and loaded the bases. Sato took the base on balls and Cossio came home. Grossmont lead 2-1. Tellous took the next base on balls bringing in Glowacki, 3-1 Grossmont. Martinez took the third base on balls and walked in another point for Grossmont, 4-1. If three wasn't enough, Jackson walked a fourth RBI in the inning. The inning finally ended with 5 runs scored and Grossmont leading 5-1.

The sixth inning saw no action for either team.

The top of the seventh found Dylan Vail on the mound for Grossmont. Vail only allowed one on base, and followed with three quick outs.

The bottom of the seventh, and the score stood at 5-1. As Tellous was at bat, Sato stole second. Pass ball and Sato advanced to third. Tellous took first on fours balls. Andrews popped up for the first out in the inning. Then, Martinez took a base on balls and the bases were loaded with Jackson on the plate, who took a single RBI.

The Griffins lead 6-1, and Imperial Valley changed pitchers for the third time.
