Coach Tran grew up in Hillsboro, Oregon where he swam for the Hillsboro Heat Swim Team under Coach James Resare.  At Hillsboro Heat, he qualified for Senior Sectional and contributed to a Men’s 3^rd place finish. In high school, he swam for Hilhi, where he led his team to three consecutive top 3 finishes. He was state champion in several events and holds a few school and state records. He also swam for Heartland Swim Association under Coach Pat Tope.

Coach Tran competed for Grossmont College Swim Team in 2011 and 2012, where he qualified for the CCCAA State Championships his freshman and sophomore year. He specialized in the distance freestyle and IM events and was All-American in several events.

After competing, he was the assistant coach under coach Brian Harvey and Tyrent Lackey. In 2016, coach Tran became the Head coach. During his coaching time at Grossmont, he has produced multiple conference champions, state qualifiers, and state finalist. He has won conference, as a swimmer and coach, in 2011, 2013, 2014 and was coach of the year in 2013 and 2014.

Outside of Grossmont coach Tran also coaches for Heartland Swim Association and is a State Beach Lifeguard.
