NEW HEAD COACH, VANESSA KELLEMS

Vanessa Kellems is named Griffins' softball head coach July 2019.

Kellems joined the Griffin staff in 2015 to assist Coach Hartung in the Griffins' winning season of 2015. She assisted the women's team again in the 2018-2019 season. 

In 2019, Kellems earned her Master in Exercise Science with an emphasis of Biomechanics from the University of Northern Colorado. She earned her Bachelors in Health Education in 2015 at South Dakota State University, where she also competed at the Division I NCAA level. Kellems played all four seasons under a variety of coaches in the outfield and second base positions from 2011-2015 while earning recognition on the Dean's Academic List in 2014 and 2015.

After Kellems career at South Dakota State (and first year coaching at Grossmont in 2015), Kellems coached with the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) Club Softball program. During the two years she coached with UNC, Kellems helped the program earn their first win in Spring 2016.

After Kellems finished her time at UNC, Kellems returned to Grossmont College to assist Coach Hartung as the outfielding and pitching coach for the 2019 season.

Kellems has been coaching since 2009 as a volunteer coach for local softball leagues and has been giving private lessons for the past eight years. In the past six years, Kellems has worked with local coaches to conduct all skill camps for players all ages along with coaching local travel ball teams.

With Kellems coaching experience Grossmont College Athletics is excited to have her continue with the Griffins in the upcoming 2019-2020 season.
