Megan Birchard began as Grossmont's Co-Head Athletic Trainer in 2021. Prior to working at Grossmont, she held the Athletic Training Coordinator position at Greater Regional Health in Creston, Iowa. During her time at GRH, she primarily provided athletic training services at Southwestern Iowa Community College (SWCC) and multiple local high schools and was a member of the patient access team. While at SWCC she also taught wellness classes as an adjunct professor.
She is a graduate of Graceland University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training while participating as a student athlete on the dance team. She earned her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology with a Sport Management concentration from the University of Central Missouri. During this time she worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Winona High School through Christus Health Systems (formerly Trinity Mother Frances). She is certified as an athletic trainer through the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification. She is currently a clinical preceptor for both the San Diego State and Point Loma Nazarene University’s Master’s in Athletic Training Programs and has enjoyed mentoring future athletic trainers.
Megan is a Creston, Iowa native who has spent her career in various settings in Texas, Missouri, and Iowa before joining the Grossmont College staff. In her free time, she also works cheer and dance camps and competitions and has received both Veteran of the Year and Raving Fan awards in her 7 years with Varsity Event Administration.
Her favorite part of being an athletic trainer is getting to meet, mentor, and build relationships with athletes from all walks of life. She enjoys supporting her current and former student-athletes in their endeavors in athletics and beyond. Outside of work, Megan enjoys spending time with her nephews, going to the beach, traveling, watching sports (Go Chiefs!), and exploring San Diego.
