Griffins back on the Winning Ways

El Cajon – The Grossmont College Griffins got back on the winning ways by defeating the East Los Angeles Huskies 11-5 in front of a loud crowd at Noel Michelson Field on Saturday, February 19th.

Luke Denos lead the way for the Griffin (6-4) offense going 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.  Joining Denos in the multi-hit club were Kaleb Tedokon, Skyler Agnew and Sean McGrew.  McGrew drove in five with his two hits.

Head Coach Randy Abshier was complimentary of his team after the game, "we hit the ball well today."

Getting the win for the Griffins was Andrew Shirvanian (1-0), it is his first collegiate win for the lefty.  The Lefty went six innings allowing three hits and only two earned runs, while striking out four and walking two.

After the Huskies got on the board with two in the top of the second, the Griffins got to work. With one out, Denos singled and was advanced to third on a Agnew single (moving to third on the throw).  McGrew got his first two RBI's with a single to left and advanced on a fielding error.  He would move to third on a fly out and score on a Jake Allen RBI single off the pitcher.

In the third inning, and two runners on, McGrew doubled to right-center to bring in two more.  Making it 5-3 Griffins.

Grossmont would break the game wide open in the fifth when they put another four runs on the board.  Jared Pratt (1-3 with two walks) doubled to lead the inning off.  Tedokon would single through the left side to move him to third.  A fielding error by East Los Angeles (4-7) would bring home Pratt, while moving Tedokon to second.  Agnew would then triple to right-center to clear the bases.  McGrew would welcome the new Husky pitcher with an RBI groundout to close out the Griffin scoring for the inning.

East Los Angeles would score three runs in the top of the seventh.

Grossmont would close out the scoring with a Tedokon single up the middle that brought home Ethan Caschetta (1-5).

The Green and Gold will travel to Cypress on Tuesday before making up a game against Barstow from last month on Wednesday at Noel Michelson Field.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
