El Cajon — The Grossmont Griffins and Imperial Valley Arabs opened Pacific Coast Athletic Conference action with a doubleheader on Thursday, March 3 in order to avoid pending weather this weekend.  Grossmont took both ends of the doubleheader by matching scores of 12-2.  Both games were shortened to seven innings due to the run-rule.

In game one, the Griffins (9-6, 2-0 PCAC) got things going with a bang.  Zavien Watson was hit by a pitch and moved up to second on a Dante Juliano bunt single.  Sean McGrew loaded the bases after Watson and Juliano stole second and third respectfully.  Skyler Agnew reached on a bloop fielder's choice driving in Watson.  Ethan Caschetta singled to center to load them up again.  Luke Denos hit a sac fly to center field to bring home McGrew.  Kaleb Tedocon drove in Caschetta and Agnew with a double to right to close out the first.

Grossmont would not look back as they scored a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings.  Three more runs crossed in the fifth before the knockout punch in the sixth.

In game two, Agnew singled to right center to drive in McGrew for the first run.  Tedocon hit a ground-rule double to bring home Agnew.

The Green and Gold would score the winning run in the third.  With the bases loaded, three consecutive batters walked to make it 5-0 after three.

On the day, Watson went 5-for-7 with two doubles a home run, three RBI and four runs scored.  McGrew was 2-for-4 with a double and four runs scored.  Agnew went 2-for-5 with a triple three runs scored and five RBI.  Tedocon was a tidy 4-for-7 two runs scored four RBI with three doubles.  As a squad, the Griffins hit .426 on the day with nearly half of their hits (23) being for extra bases (11).

Grossmont will travel West on the 52 on Tuesday to take on San Diego Mesa for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.  They will be back home on Thursday, March 10 to host Mesa, also at 2:00 p.m.
