Monterey Park – The Grossmont College Griffin baseball team opened the 2023 season on the correct boot as they defeated the East Los Angeles College Huskies by an 11-2 final.

Shortstop Freshman Nevan Noonan lead the potent Griffin (1-0) offense with a 2-for-4 attack with five RBI including his first collegiate home run, a three run blast, to open the scoring for the season, in the top of the second.

Catcher Cole Duffy followed with his first collegiate home run as the freshmen went back-to-back in the top of the second. Both home runs were to left field.

Noah Lane closed out the scoring with a two- run shot, you guessed it, to left field.

On the mound, Sophomore Kyle Dobyns got the season opening nod and went four innings allowing three hits, walking one and striking out four while getting the victory.

Kaden Hustead, Ethan Heidler, Koda Alto and Bradley Barkley all got their first collegiate innings under their belts. Dylan Vail also made an appearance in the victory.

The team will continue the season opening five game road trip on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Mission Viejo to take on Saddleback at 4:30.
