EL CAJON – The Grossmont College Men's Basketball opened the home schedule on Friday, November 18 with an 85-80 loss to El Camino College in non-conference action. 

Grossmont (1-3) more than doubled the Warriors (5-1) in bench points, outscoring them 51-24. 

Tre Edmond and Brandon Tully both led the Griffins with 12 points in a balanced attack. An amazing 13 players of the 15 players that dressed for the game put at least two points in the scorebook. 

For El Camino, three players reached double-figures led by a game high 25 points by Gabe Hubbard. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Grossmont would jump on the Warriors quickly going up 10-6 in the first two minutes of the game. 

  • El Camino would go scoreless during a three-minute stretch of the first half. 

  • The score was tied 12-all five minutes into the game. 

  • El Co would go on a 9-0 run over 94 seconds. Their best scoring run of the game. 

  • El Camino would have the largest lead by either team of 10 points at the 15:35 mark of the second half. 

  • Grossmont would have an eight-point run during a two-minute stretch in the second half. 

  • Three of El Camino's starters would play in excess of 14 minutes for the first half. No Griffin played more than eight and a half minutes. 

  • The Warriors would close out the game with a 15-13 run during the final 6:41 of the game. 

GRIFFIN NOTES: 

  • This is the first game of the season that the Griffins failed to score at least 90 points. 

  • Grossmont would out-score El Camino in several team categories. 

  • Points off turnovers (18-16) 

  • Second Chance (11-9) 

  • Fast Break (32-28) 

  • Bench (51-24) 

  • There were five times the score was tied and nine lead changes. 

  • All five of the Griffin starters finished with a +/- of at least +5. 

  • The Griffins fouled the least number of times this season with only 17 fouls. 

  • The 80 points the Griffins scored are the fewest so far this season. 

The Griffins will be back in action on Monday, Nov. 21 when they host Compton College. Game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
