EL CAJON – The Grossmont College men's basketball team sat school history on Friday, Dec. 9, as they posted 100 or more points for the third consecutive game, in a 100-79 victory over Los Angeles Pierce College.

Grossmont (5-5) closed out the non-conference portion of the season with the milestone victory.

Brandon Tully led five Griffins in double figures with 26 points. Also scoring double figures was Daevin Celaya (13 points), Samuel Stewart IV (13 points), Tyrone Lester Jr. (12 points) and Elijah Williams (10 points).

Five minutes into the game, LA Pierce (0-13) were up 13-3 after coming out hot, going six of nine from the field. Just a few seconds later, at the 5:40 mark into the first half, the Brahmas were up by 11 points at 15-4. That was the largest lead the visitors would enjoy on the evening.

With 11:15 left in the opening half, the Griffins had only chipped away two points to get within nine points. Over the next 105 seconds, the Green and Gold clamped down and tied the game at 24-all. It was all Grossmont from there on.

Grossmont would close out the first half (nine minutes 30 seconds) on a 27-12 run to take a 51-36 lead at intermission.

The second half, the Griffins would be six points better than LA Pierce.

There was not a statistical category that Grossmont did not win. Points in the Paint: GC 44-32, Points off turnovers: GC 45-10, Second Chance points: GC 21-13, Fast Break Points: GC 33-14, Bench Points: GC 53-12, Turnovers: GC 14, LAP 40, Assists: GC 16-8, Steals: GC 23-6. In fact, the only two categories that LA Pierce won was rebounds 41-40 and blocks 4-1.

Grossmont will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 14 when they open Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play against back-to-back reigning champions San Diego City. Tip-off during finals week will be 6:00 p.m.
