GRIFFINS SCORE MULTIPLE MEDALS AT CCCAA STATE MEET

MONTEREY PARK – Maya Garcia-Hale had a great meet at the State Swim and Dive meet this past weekend. 

But she wasn't the only Griffin to have a nice showing amongst the State's elite swimmers and divers. 

Garcia-Hale swam in four different races and never finished below fourth. In the 500-yard freestyle, she won the bronze medal. In the Breaststroke discipline, she raced in both the 100- and 200-yard races. In the 100y final on Friday, she won her preliminary race and finished fourth in the final. The longer 200y race on Saturday saw her finish second in the prelims but won the silver in the finals. She wrapped up the weekend with another silver medal performance in the 100-yard freestyle, after automatically qualifying during the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) Championships a couple of weeks ago. 

Maegan Calcutt scored three finishes in the top 15 in the State. In the 500y freestyle on Thursday, she finished 12th out of 23 racers who qualified. In the 200-yard freestyle race on Friday, she finished 11th out of 26 swimmers who qualified. Finally on Saturday in the 200-yard butterfly, she finished 13th out of the 17 who qualified. 

On the Men's side, Trevor Arnes, Ryan Beery and Nathan Snyder all finished in the top 16 in the State. Arnes finished 13th out of 22 qualified swimmers in the 100y butterfly. Also, in the 100y breaststroke on Friday, he finished 15th out of 22. Beery finished less than .3 seconds behind Arnes in the 100y fly. On Saturday, Snyder finished 16th out of 22 in the 100y free. 
 
in the diving events, Jake Nelson finished in the top 10 in the 3-meter (eighth) and 1-meter (fourth) events. 

For the relay events, the Griffin men's 200y free relay on Thursday finished in 14th place. Also on Thursday, the Griffin women's 400y medley relay finished 12th out of the 17 teams that raced. On Friday, the Griffin women's 200y medley relay finished 11th in the field of 15. The long-distance relays also started on Friday with the 800y free relay where the Griffin women finished 14th out of 15. Finally, on Saturday the second to last race was the women's 400y free relay. The Green and Gold finished 12th in the field of 16. The Griffin men's 400y free relay team was in the final race of the meet and came home 14th in the field of 18. 

A total of 12 individual Griffins qualified for the State meet and six relay teams for a total of 24 entries.
