AWARDS A PLENTY FOR GROSSMONT

EL CAJON – Sometimes things come in bunches.

Well, that is the feeling around the pool as the Grossmont Men's Water Polo team announced several awards this past week.

First, Ryan Beery was awarded the PCAC Male athlete of the week award.

Then the All-PCAC team was announced and guess who was well represented? Yep Grossmont.

Donald Nelson and Joey Asaro were named to the All-PCAC second team.

Meanwhile, on the first team, Eric Bates, Ryland Humphrey, Austin Wenzel and Beery were all members. Coach Lackey also got in on the action picking up PCAC Men's Water Polo Coach of the year, his 4th PCAC Men's Water Polo coach of the year award in the last 6 years.

Next up was the naming of the All-Southern California team, where Beery and Bates were both listed.

Finally, the big one came. The All-American team was released. Grossmont's Beery was named to the prestigious team.

For his career at Grossmont, the sophomore scored 118 goals and had 75 steals with a shooting percentage of 58.1.

On Friday, the team announced that Granite Hills senior Vaughn Clark has announced that he will be wearing Green and Gold next Fall. Clark was named to the All-Grossmont League team twice (2021 and 2022). He was a team captain for the Eagles this season and led in both goals and assists this season. Granite Hills lost in the quarterfinals of the CIF San Diego Section Division II playoffs.
