Water polo enthusiast Tyrent Lackey has thrown the ball great distances in the game. Four time Pacific Coast Conference Coach of the Year, and now  CCCWPCA Hall of Fame inductee and USA Water polo's PSWP Monte Nitzkowski distinguished coaching award 2021, Lackey guides more young men into the pool by his own experience.

Coach Lackey wrapped up his Jr. College playing career as a two time CCCAA All-American, and went on to play for the UCSD Tritons in 2005 and 2006. 2006 saw Lackey lead the University of California San Diego to a 3rd place finish in the NCAA championships, and Lackey, one of three finalists for NCAA water polo's Cutino Award (Heisman trophy of Water Polo). Division I First-Team All-American, and a Division II Most Valuable Player and All-American. Lackey still competes today with the Sunset Masters team. 

Lackey holds his MA in Special Education and his MS in Exercise Science, in addition to his California K-12 Special Education Teaching Credential and Graduate Certificate in teaching students with Autism. He became the head men’s water polo coach at Grossmont College in 2014, and continues to live in his sport; Coach Lackey exclaims, “I love giving back to the sport, by helping student-athletes navigate the pool to reach their future goals!”
