EL CAJON — Grossmont College Softball will be back in the Spring of 2024!

Today Craig Fuentes was hired to be the sixth coach in Griffin program history.

Coach Fuentes comes to Grossmont from Sierra College in Rocklin, California where he has been the assistant coach for the past five seasons.

During the 2022 season the Wolverines went 40-11, with the final loss coming in the State Championship game against San Mateo.

"I am humbled by the opportunity to become the sixth head coach in program history," Coach Fuentes said when told he was awarded the reigns of the program.  "I wish to leave the program in better shape than the first day I arrived. All of our student-athletes are more than just softball players and my goal is to help produce high-character individuals that can become leaders in their careers later in life. I also want to build and cultivate a softball program that does things the right way."

"On the softball field, attitude, energy, and effort are things that we can control, and attempting to get one percent better each day will be a key component. I will look for players who are good people just as much as they are talented ball players. The willingness of the student-athlete to be disciplined, accountable, and a good teammate will empower the program to be successful."

"We're excited to have Craig join the Grossmont College family and lead our softball program as we restart the program in the 2024 season," said Jason Allen, Interim Athletic Director. "He brings a tremendous amount of knowledge to our program, and has been an extremely well-respected coach at the junior college level in California. He is a natural leader who is a firm believer in building a positive culture, and his passion for the game is evident."

Prior to coaching for the Wolverines, Craig was a football player for the Northern California school in his native Rocklin.

Coach is married and has two dogs.
