EL CAJON — There are games that look like blowouts, and then there are games that are very close despite what the scoreboard says.

Friday's match against Imperial Valley was one of the latter. Grossmont (4-7, 4-5 PCAC) and Imperial Valley (1-10, 0-8 PCAC) played a competitive match, even if the final score line says otherwise. The score line was Griffins 6, Imperial Valley 0, but it was a competitive match between the two sides.

Imperial Valley (playing with only nine players) played the Griffins (who played with ten for most of the second half) tight despite being down.

Zandre Nichols got on the scoresheet early in the match on a rebound goal in the 13th minute.

Twelve minutes later, Jesseka Staton netted a shot off a nifty pass from Nichols in the 25th minute.

Before halftime, Alyssa Noland would take a pass from Ciara May Horn and put the Griffins up 3-0 at the break.

In the second half, Noland would score her second goal in the 72nd minute when she received a corner kick from Isabel Villasana to make it 4-0.

Moments later, Naomi Alarcon corralled the rebound of Staton's shot and put it past the keeper for a 5-0 lead.

In the 79th minute, Alarcon would strike again as she shot the ball, which was blocked by an IVC defender and she would put it in the back of the net for the final goal of the match.

Jordan Hanssen turned in a clean sheet for the third time this season.

Grossmont will be back at home on Tuesday as they host Palomar College at 1:00 p.m.
