EL CAJON — What a difference a couple of weeks makes.

A month ago, the Comets defeated the Griffins 3-1 at Minkoff Field in San Marcos.

Today, the Griffins (5-7, 5-5 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference) defeated the Comets (7-6-1, 5-5 PCAC) at Mashin-Roth Memorial Stadium 2-0.

The teams battled in the first half with both teams taking turns controlling the pace and possession. Grossmont managed to register four shots on goal to Palomar's none. But after 45 minutes the score line hadn't changed, 0-0.

At the start of the second half, Palomar decided to change keepers after Savannah Wahrer stopped all four shots in the first half.

In the 56th minute, Grossmont's Bridget Cooley brought the ball up the right flank and spotted Jesseka Staton open in the box. Cooley crossed it over to the freshman midfielder Staton who used her right foot to put it past the Comets goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead.

Just two minutes later, Cooley was running parallel to Emma Gorrence. Gorrence fed Cooley at the top of the goal area who had a wide-open half of the net to make it 2-0 Griffins at 58:43.

Palomar would threaten a few times in the remainder of the match but could not get any quality scoring chances.

Jordan Hanssen picked up her third win of the season with the clean sheet.

The Griffins will take their two-match winning streak to San Diego City on Friday as they head Downtown for a 3:00 p.m. first touch.
