RIVERSIDE – The Grossmont College men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to the 2023 RCC Invitational on Friday and Saturday and came in fourth out of the ten schools that sent athletes to the event.

Maya Garcia-Hale set two new Grossmont College school records on the weekend while winning three events.  She won the 200-butterfly event with a time of 2:12.01 seconds, besting the previous record. The next closest swimmer in the event was over 17.5 seconds behind.

On Saturday Maya had a trio of events on her calendar.  The first event on Saturday was the 200-yard medley relay team that registered a time of 2:03.09, that was six seconds better than the team "B" team from Orange Coast College (neither the "A" or "C" squads from OCC finished the event). An hour later, she won the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:08.99, winning by just over four seconds.

In the afternoon session (about two hours later), the one-time Cal State East Bay commitment bested her qualifying time in the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:35.00) and set a new Griffin record with a 2:29.25 time.  That was also 7.26 seconds better than a swimmer from East Los Angeles College.

Overall, the Griffin women finished the meet fourth just nine points off the medal stand.  The Griffin men also finished fourth (out of nine squads).

The Griffins will travel to Palomar College to compete in the PCAC Invitational Meet #2 on Friday, March 17.  The meet begins at Noon in San Marcos.
