EL CAJON — The Grossmont College Griffins took care of business against Cuyamaca College in a 3-0 sweep that took a brisk 59 minutes to complete.

The win for the top ranked in Southern California Griffins (20-3, 15-0 PCAC) is their 18th consecutive victory. It is the longest since a 19-game streak during the 2016 season.

The G-House won by scores of 25-13, 25-9, 25-10.

Brooke Miller had a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs. The offense was well balanced as Miller was the only attacker with double-digit kills. Chelsee Trendler was distributing evenly on her 34 assists.

Starting Libero Rylee Suggett had six assists, four aces and nine digs on her sophomore night. Grossmont racked up 11 aces on the evening, it is the seventh time this season that they have served 10+ aces. The last time was against Palomar on October 19.

In the first set, it was a series of three to four points in Grossmont's favor then two for Cuyamaca (1-15, 1-15 PCAC).

In the middle set, the Coyotes raced out to a 3-0 lead. Grossmont would go on a four-point run highlighted by a pair of Madison Troemel kills, a service ace by future Antelope Madi Bogle and a kill by Karsen Carroll. Cuyamaca went on a four-point string to take a 7-4 lead. That triggered a timeout by Grossmont. On the other side of the timeout, Miller kill got the ball back for Grossmont. Rylee Suggett then served Grossmont to a 10-point run at 15-7. This prompted Cuyamaca to take a timeout. After the timeout, just like the Griffins had, the Coyotes got a point. Unlike Grossmont, Cuyamaca could not string several points together. The Griffins got the ball right back and got another seven straight points with Troemel on the service line. Cuyamaca got a side out for the final time in the set at 22-9. Kills by Kelsey Carter (seven kills and two blocks), Bre Illoski (three kills and three digs) and Trendler closed the set out for the Green and Gold.

The final set saw Grossmont lose the first point but bounced right back and scored the next four. Cuyamaca got a point to break the streak. Another four-point run by Grossmont was interrupted by a Coyote timeout. Then two points went to Cuyamaca before a service error gave the serving duties back to Grossmont. The Green and Gold went on a 7-3 run to make it 17-7. Which brought Rylee Suggett back to the service line. A Troemel/Carter block, followed by a Miller kill and an attack error by Cuyamaca brought the score to 21-7. A Grossmont attack error was brushed off quickly as Troemel got a kill to bring the Griffins back to the service line. The two district rivals traded points, then Cuyamaca was given a point on an attack error to make it 23-10. Kills by Miller and match point by Kelsey Carter wrapped up the match.

Grossmont will have a quick turnaround as they travel to San Diego Miramar on Monday to wrap up Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play and the regular season.

The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) is expected to release its playoff bracket for the State Championship playoffs on Friday, Nov. 18. With the Griffins currently ranked as the top team in Southern California, it is expected that the Griffins will be somewhere in the top three spots. This would mean the Griffins would have a home playoff match on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
