SACRAMENTO – The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Champions, Grossmont College Griffins will inexplicably be on the road for the duration of the 2022 CCCAA Volleyball playoffs. 

Due to the misrepresentation of the State’s Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), the Griffins (21-3, 16-0 PCAC) were seeded ninth in the Southern California field of twenty. Therefore, Grossmont will be “Road Warriors” during the playoffs that start on Tuesday, Nov. 22. The Regional Semifinal game will be at Pasadena City College (17-7, 7-5 SCC). 

In the all-time series between the Lancers and Griffins, Grossmont holds a 5-1 mark overall and a victory in their only playoff match-up in 2011. That 2011 match was also a Regional Semi-Final match at PCC. The game went four sets with Grossmont winning 25-18, 14-25, 25-22, 25-19. The Green and Gold would end up losing to the second seeded El Camino Warriors in the Regional Finals. Grossmont would only have three losses that season as well, with two of them coming to El Camino. 

The Lancers, seeded eighth, finished in fourth place in the South Coast Conference, going 7-5 finishing four games behind the sixth seed Mt. San Antonio. Against teams that made the playoffs, Pasadena City went 7-6. 

For Grossmont, all three of their losses on the season (which were in the first two weeks of the season) were to eventual playoff teams. They would also win against the second seed, the fourth seed (twice), 16th seed (twice) and the 18th seed. 

NOTES: For those who plan on attending the match at Pasadena City College, please note that their website still indicates that masks are required for indoor venues such as Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium. Also, admission for the match will be a CCCAA Mandated $12, Seniors and Children under 12 are $8. Tickets will be available at the door.
