MEN'S WATER POLO IS BACK ON TOP

MEN'S WATER POLO IS BACK ON TOP
Griffin men's water polo got off to a fast start in the pool this year going 12-0 in the month of September. This included 4-0 performances in the Citrus and Saddleback tournaments. Key victories came against Citrus and Mt. Sac (both made the Southern California Regional playoffs), Saddleback, and conference rival Palomar. The Griffin men managed to finish the season 24-6, going undefeated (10-0) in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference, earning the number one seed in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) tournament and staying in the state-wide top ten all season long.

In the PCAC tournament, the Griffins beat Miramar College in the semi-finals 22-6, and Palomar College in the finals 21-7. Following the PCAC tournament four Griffins were selected to the All-Tournament team including sophomores Ryan Blevitt, Cole Kammerer, Isaiah Webster, and freshman Brock Kammerer. All were selected based on their stellar performance this season.

The team went on to earn a spot in the Southern California Regional playoffs. The Griffins played the Mounties of Mt. Sac in the first round, earning a hard fought 12-9 victory after beginning the game down 3-0. In the second round, the Griffins matched up against eventual runner up and state number two, Los Angeles Valley College. Grossmont came out hard matching goals with the Monarchs 2-2 in the first quarter. The Griffins continued the fight into the second quarter, but finished trailing 6-4 at half. In the third quarter LA Valley got the jump on Grossmont to finish the quarter up 11-5 before going on to win 18-11, ending the Griffins season.

The Griffin men did well in the postseason though; seven Griffins were named to the All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference teams. Ryan Blevitt, Cole Kammerer, Isaiah Webster, Anson Rassmussen and Garrett Durado were named to the first team, with Cole Duffett being named to the second team.
Freshman Brock Kammerer was selected Pacific Coast Athletic Conference men's water polo player of the year. Brock and his brother Cole Kammerer were both also selected to the All-Southern California regional teams, with Brock also being named a Community College All-American.

Other interesting notes:
Travis Rosenkoetter's 226 saves placed him on the Grossmont College top 20 (20th) for saves in a season and second in the PCAC.
Cole Kammerer, Brock Kammerer, and Ryan Blevitt all made the Grossmont College Top 20 for goals in a season with 101, 100, and 93 respectively and led the PCAC.
Brock Kammerer, Cole Kammerer, Anson Rassmussen, and Ben Mussey led the PCAC in assists and ranked in the Grosmsont top 20 as well with 75, 50, 48, and 39 respectively.
Travis Rosenkoetter and Cole Kammerer were top 5 in the PCAC for steals.
