The Grossmont College men's water polo team captured the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) championship for the third time in the last four seasons. The Griffins got off to a strong start, finishing the first quarter with a 4-3 lead, thanks to goals from sophomore Jake Simpson (2), freshman Miles Boone (1), and sophomore Lucas Draper (1).
Palomar College responded with a 3-1 run in the second quarter, ending the half with a 6-5 advantage. Sophomore Zach Barclay provided Grossmont's only goal in that quarter, drawing and converting a five-meter penalty shot.
In the third quarter, Grossmont began their comeback, outscoring Palomar 3-2. Jake Simpson continued his stellar performance with two more goals, while Miles Boone added his second of the game, bringing the Griffins within one.
Grossmont's momentum carried into the fourth quarter. Freshman Xylen Rotsart scored his first two goals of the match, sophomore Raul Rico added one, and Miles Boone secured his third goal, leading the Griffins to a dominant 7-3 second-half performance.
With this victory, the Griffins clinched their 29th conference championship in program history and secured an automatic berth in the Southern California Regional Playoffs. They will face Cypress College in the first round on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Orange Coast Community College.
