Softball players Cynthia Hiers of San Bernardino Valley College and Sydney Vates of Grossmont are the Pacific Coast Athletic Women's Athlete of the Week for February 12th through 18th.
 
Hiers, a sophomore outfielder from Pacific High School in San Bernardino, went 4 for 7 with 2 runs scored and an RBI as the Wolverines defeated Victor Valley 8-4 in the first game if a double header.
In San Bernardino's 24-5 second game victory, she went 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.
 
Vates, Grossmont's freshman shortstop out of Santee's Santana High School, was 10 for17 with 3 home runs, 6 runs scored and 10 RBIs in the Griffins' 2 wins for the week
Vates led the way in an 18-7 victory over Golden West, going 3 for 6 with 3 runs scored, 5 RBIs and 2 homers. She also helped Grossmont tie a 7-1-1 Hancock team 7-7.
 
HONORABLE MENTION
Alicia Garcia, Softball, Palomar: The Comets' sophomore pitcher/utility player from San Diego Mira Mesa High School and a transfer from Tyler (Texas) Community College, threw a 2 hit shutout in a 1-0 win over Fullerton to go to 5-0 on the season with an ERA of 0.73. Garcia is batting .387 with a .406 on base percentage and a .484 slugging percentage.
Kendall Crosby, Basketball, Palomar: Crosby, a sophomore guard from Vista's Rancho Buena High School, scored 16 points and drained 4 3- pointers as the state No. 1- ranked Comets turned back rival MiraCosta 81-54 the close out a 25-1 regular season.
Colleen Murphy, Basketball, MiraCosta: The 6-foot-0 sophomore forward from Fallbrook Oasis High School led the Spartans to an 85-81 victory over Imperial Valley as she scored 25 points and hauled down 8 rebounds.
Cassie Gonzalez, Basketball, San Diego Mesa: The freshman outfielder from Chula Vista Bonita Vista High School had a 6-for-12 week at the plate, slugging 2 home runs and driving in 10, as the Olympians beat College of the Canyons 5-4 and swept Glendale 16-3 and 11-3. She drove in the winning run vs. Canyons with a double and is batting.476 with a .500 on-base percentage and a.786 slugging percentage. Gonzalez is the sister of Mesa's Chelsea Gonzalez, who shared the AOTW award last week.
