Last night at Saddleback College, Griffin women's volleyball swept the Gauchos 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-16). Kylee Snyder, Shaney Lipscomb, Naomi Talis Leilua, Alexis Vanlandingham and Jen Orbita were major contributors in this huge win.
#5 Kylee Snyder is a 5'7 sophomore setter out of Granite Hills High in El Cajon, CA. She began playing Griffin volleyball in 2017-18, where she totaled 30 assists in 4 matches played. Today, Snyder has almost tripled her assists (84) in the same amount of matches (4)! Last night's game at Saddleback found Snyder with 22 assists, 4 service aces and 3 digs.
#6 Shaney Lipscomb is Grossmont's outside hitter and opposite. She is always looking to score, who unsurprisingly killed 11, attempted 26, aced 3 and dug an additional 3 in last night's sweep. She is a 6'2 freshman bounce back from the University of Hawaii, originally from San Diego, CA.
#9 Naomi Talisa Leilua returns to GC volleyball a sophomore since the 2017-18 season. The 2017-18 saw Leilua with 30 service aces, 87 kills, 243 attempts and 89 digs in 24 matches played. This season, the 5'8 outside hitter in 4 matches has already totaled 9 service aces, 20 kills, 61 attempts and 27 digs. In last night's game, she had 3 service aces, 5 kills, 12 attempts and 2 digs. She graduated from Redondo Union High in Redondo, CA.
#11 Alexis Vanlandingham continues her success since last 2017-18 season as a 6'0 sophomore opposite from Granite Hills High in El Cajon, CA. She is killing it, literally, with 45 kills so far this season (62 last season/20 matches). In last night's game versus Saddleback, Vanlandingham killed 8, attempted 11, and dug 3.
#23 libero Jen Orbita stole 12 points away from Saddleback in last night's game. The 5'2 sophomore out of Olympian High in Chula Vista, CA walked away from the Gauchos with 12 digs! She also had a single service ace and assist. Orbita began her career at Grossmont in the 2017-18 season when she totaled 24 digs in 8 matches-now she has 54 digs in just 4 matches!
The women's volleyball continue their winning streak away at the San Diego Mesa College Classic this weekend, September 7-8. The next home match is Wednesday, September 19 versus Pasadena College at 4:00 p.m. Be sure to catch the fun!
